Day 1

Our proposal was to do something with an ancient Greek/Roman theme. We were thinking of calling it The Athens Arch or The Athenian (if we go with a Greek theme), and we wanted to use the UGA arch in our flag/masthead. We'd like to use Imprint MT Shadow for the flag, Adobe Garamond Pro (regular) for the body copy, and maybe Adobe Garamond Pro (bold or semibold) for the headlines (although we haven't really settled on that yet). We wanted to divide the paper into into three subsections--ethos (editorial/comment), pathos (feature, since it's more human-interest-y), and logos (news and maybe sports since they're more straightforward/logical). We were also thinking of including some other Greek words (e.g. Acme, Acropolis, Agora, etc.), especially words starting with "a" if we want to do some kind of alliterative thing.

  1. I think it's a great idea! If the idea comes through than you definitely should go with the title "The Athens Arch" or maybe even just "The Arch" because the arch is a big part of UGA and it wouldn't be right if you called it "The Athenian" and then used the UGA arch as the masthead, because some people may not make the connection. Everything else seems like great proposals. Some may have trouble deciphering the headlines just because it's Greek (I would).

  2. I really like this idea; it's sophisticated. The only issue would really be the difficulty of Greek words for sections, which could easily be fixed by incorporating definitions into the sections. It might actually make it more eye-catching (couldn't find that in the ap book haha). Also, as long as we approach it as we're reporting FROM Athens not just ABOUT Athens, I think it works. Love it!

  3. yea i like the idea only problem is some people may find it hard to kind of understand some of the terminology that you all use in the paper...but other than that it's a great idea...
