Division of work

In order for everything to be really organized, I think that we should assign key roles for people. Some people are more familiar with InDesign and photoshop so I think they should be the key people who work on layout. That doesn't necessarily mean that anyone else can't work on a layout however. Then for the graphics and illustrations, people who are better at those tasks should be assigned those tasks. Same goes for editing and so on. That way people can have key roles but yet having the opportunity to do more than just one task.

Day Two =]

So yesterday went really well. I think we all had really good ideas that all came together to make a good general outline. "The Amplifier" is hip yet rockstarish.I am somewhat disappointed at how horrible my mock front page came out but Im here to actually learn how to do that better for next year so whatev. Cant wait to get started today!

Groups or By Yourself???

Well, we are going to start working on the actual newspaper tomorrow and we need to decide if we should work in groups or do our own thing. I think we should do groups so people can learn from others and so the paper turns out more uniform.

Day 2

Today was pretty good i learned how to layout a basic news paper front which was pretty cool... I got along with my partners fine and we created a title for the newspaper...Its a surprise you are going to have to wait lol....hopefully i will be able to contribute more to the newspaper...Graphic Design was alright....I think i can get used to it :)

Day 2

I think it would be a good idea for us to have a few copy editors before we start placing stories on the page and then maybe make each person responsible for a page or two (or three). Each person could go through the process of designing a page from start to finish, and we would have to take responsibility for each individual page. If we don't do that, I think we should assign each section to a group of a few people so that everyone can get experienced with each part of the process.

Day2

I agree with the divide and conquer philosophy. Either partners or our groups of three from earlier would work. But, I feel like while we are working we should all STILL be communicating in order for the paper to flow well. By the end, we should read over other groups' work one-by-one to assure that it is satifactory. Making sure we are all on the same page (figuratively of course) needs to be our top priority. :)

Day 2- How to go about this...

Honestly, I've never worked on a newspaper, only a yearbook, so I'm not familiar with the newspaper designing process, but I think the best way to get things done effectively would be to get in groups of maybe twos. Each group could be mainly responsible for a certain part of the process such as one for graphics/fonts, placement of stories/layouts, and headlines/drop heads/etc. After we've made decisions for our individual areas, we could consult each other in case there are any major objections/suggestions. Final editing could fall to one or two detail people along with Mrs. Corbin. That's the gist of how I think we should go about making the paper... divide and conquer.

First Post, Tue

Blog is finally up.
The project can now go into full swing, and the paper I feel will be a success. The name and overarching them of the paper has been nailed down. Tomorrow the articles will begin to come in and will start to hammer out the layout. The group is strong willed and smart, and we've all have gotten along well. Cooperation is great, and now we need to divide the work. I have no idea what my assignment will be, but I hope we will be able to work in teams. I can function better if I have a coworker assisting me in a difficult situation.
Also we in the design department probably need to stick to basic font, as it will provide us more control over the product. I be able to talk about more as the project continues...

Idea

Our group different that where thrown out. Out of all those ideas, I think the title Static would work best. Static is a name that I think will capture the reader immediately. The good thing about a name like Static is that all the section subheads don't necessarily have to do with the word static, but instead they can just all incorporate the same concept of being bold and catchy. We can try to come up with those subheads in class. Also, I think a name like Static will go will go well with the overall theme of theme of the camp because, it too is kind of catchy and in your face.

Idea Time

Well my group came up with different titles such as the beat, the amplifier, the speaker boxxx, etc. and we came up wit different subheads such as showtime for sports, sold out for the economy, etc. We discussed the different types of layouts that we are going to use for the paper that we are going to make... Overall we did alright and i liked the ideas of other people's ideas.

Day One =]

Hmm... interesting day. Never been so confused about a computer program in my life but we are here to learn, right? Today was mostly brainstorming so there was not to much pressure. I really liked the other groups ideas, they were really creative and fun. I hope tomorrow we can decide on a flag and start learning more about InDesign because I know it will be reallyhelpful in class next year. I am excited about this week and cannot wait to continue working!

Day 1- Ideas for Newspaper Name (Group 2)

Our group thought it best to stick with a music/rockstar type theme in order to represent the camp and also because it allows for interesting graphics and section titles. We came up with three main ideas for the flag: The Speaker Box (credit to Betty), The Beat, and The Amplifier (our favorite). The Amplifier relates to the music/rockstar theme of the camp without being too explicit, and it also works well as a newspaper title because it shows how we will take stories that our readers may have heard something about but may not know the full story. We'll give them the full story of a given topic, "amplifying" what they may know about it. We also came up with several ideas for section names for sports, news, etc. I won't list ALL of them, but some the examples are Sold Out for the Economy section, Showtime for Sports, and The Beat for Editorial stories. There are several options for graphics and fonts, but we liked blackmoor (I'm pretty sure that's it) for the flag font.
Our proposal for the paper was that we'd go with an "in your face" type thing. A headline my group and I decided on was Static or Erupt (leaning more towards Static). The Direction we were going with this title was a short word that has a strong meaning as the headlines of the different sections. We had previously looked at other potential titles such as Voicebox, The Word or Word on the Street (which could be used as the title of a local news section), and The Wire or On the Wire, but there was some controversy over the headlines of the theme, and we couldn't make it in time to develop a solid theme.

the arch

Well. Ben pretty much explained the logicstics of the idea... but aslo, we were going to try to incorperate actual definitions for the greek words in order to further communicate our theme with the arches to our no-so-greek readers.

Day 1

Our proposal was to do something with an ancient Greek/Roman theme. We were thinking of calling it The Athens Arch or The Athenian (if we go with a Greek theme), and we wanted to use the UGA arch in our flag/masthead. We'd like to use Imprint MT Shadow for the flag, Adobe Garamond Pro (regular) for the body copy, and maybe Adobe Garamond Pro (bold or semibold) for the headlines (although we haven't really settled on that yet). We wanted to divide the paper into into three subsections--ethos (editorial/comment), pathos (feature, since it's more human-interest-y), and logos (news and maybe sports since they're more straightforward/logical). We were also thinking of including some other Greek words (e.g. Acme, Acropolis, Agora, etc.), especially words starting with "a" if we want to do some kind of alliterative thing.
